Recently I found, installed, fixed, and began translating a PHP-based 
2ch-type threadfloat BBS script that was updated last year by some 
Japanese guy called "susu": https://susu.cc/2021/10/threadfloat.html

It's based on http://script.s16.xrea.com/2ch/ which those in the know 
will have seen before, but this version has some nice modifications 
like UTF-8, mobile display compatibility, and other things

It's had image upload capabilities since 2003 however, so sadly those 
who believe in "textboards" will have to wait for a different announce-
