DeepL-kun to the rescue! (accuracy not guaranteed!)

http://f16.aaacafe.ne.jp/~stwalker/

1998.7.12 "Hajimete no Ayashii World" is started. Later, it was moved to
           @Famille, managed by Kuzuha.

1998.9.25 After hacking(?) another person's account, the precursor of Ayashii
World@Famille was born. The account was quickly lost and moved to a
new location the next day. The background of this is a big mystery.

At the same time, Hajimete no Ayashii World and O-sa-mu-~Arata☆
were also born. By continuing to use the "Ayashii" moniker despite
pressure from Alice, the administrator, Kuzuha, would later go on
to rise to high popularity, but at this time it was just one of the
           minor boards.

1998.12.7 Shiba requests BBSes to not operate under the name "Ayashii World".

[insert big text about Alice possibly being behind it here]

While most boards have no choice but to drop the "Ayashii" moniker,
only @Famille and @Nishigaoka continue to call themselves "Ayashii"
by resisting all forms of pressures such as trolling.

1999.2.6 Hajimete no Ayashii World@Famille, managed by Kuzuha, is relocated
and restarted. The next day, Ayashii World@Famille, which later
becomes the Main BBS, is quietly born.

1999.4.9 The residents of Ayashii World REBIRTH, who were vehemently opposed
to the arbitrary changes of the scripts and background colors that
ignored the wishes of the residents, as well as the fundamentalist
moderation method of "please don't write about anything except
Ayashii things please", moved to Ayashii World@Famille, which is
           managed by Kuzuha.

The unconfirmed rumors that the registrant of the account was a
woman, the neutral name "Kuzuha", and the soft image of their
posts' contents, etc. caused a strange phenomenon in which people
began to moe-ify the administrator. It was around this time that
the protoype of the so-called "moehodai" occurred, where a torrent
of "moe~" would be posted during the final minute of Telehodai.

[TL Note: Telehodai was a service that allowed telephone and dial-
up internet users to pay a flat-rate for their usage during 11pm to
8am, making it much cheaper than using the internet during peak
times. This caused a lot of net users to become night owls, as they
would limit themselves to using the internet during "Telehodai" to
           save money]

The fact that anyone could casually participate in the event in the
heat of the moment led to an increase in the number of single-line
posts with no substance, and it could be said that the unique under-
ground stench of Ayashii faded away and the threshold for participa-
           tion was lowered.

[TL Note: "underground" meaning the techno-centric hacking/cracking/
           etc. culture]

1999.6.20 Due to the influx of trolls and mass direct-links to "warezer" and
other frequently occurring problems that threatened the existence
of the BBS, the URL was changed and the site pretended to close
down, but a radical solution was not found, so eventually Kuzuha
was forced to abandon the administration of the board. Ayashii
World@Famille was forced to shut down.

[TL Note: in a different section down the page it goes into more
specifics, saying that the trolls were coming in from Cult Bookmark
           ( https://cult.to/cult/ ), and @Famille moved from ~/bbs.cgi to
~/1/bbs.cgi to disguise itself as 404]

However, "KuzuhaScript", which is highly regarded as the pinnacle
of the stacking-type BBS, has continued to improve since then, and
it continues to be improved and is still in use today. It remains
the de facto standard for "Ayashii-type" bulletin board scripts.
Incidentally, the average log size at this time was somewhere less
than 2 MB, but this could be said to be the greatest period of
           cultural blossoming.

And that's the story of how KuzuhaScript came to be ヽ(´ー`)ノ
(although KuzuhaScriptPHP - the PHP port - was created almost from scratch by
Sion in 2003. That's what the script we're using derives from)

There's a lot of archived posts about Kuzuha here, but I'm not translating all
of that!:
