To get people to visit a site like this in the age of the corporate and 
censored web, you can't just sit on your hands and expect the masses to 
get lucky with a search engine and find you (I challenge anyone to find 
Heyuri on a search engine without typing "Heyuri" nor anything that 
only Heyuri users would be familiar with!)

Both the site owner and the users need to be proactive in promoting it - 
not in a shill-like fashion where it comes across as someone clearly 
trying to gain fame/fortune by luring people into their site, but in an 
earnest way that is mutually beneficial to all parties

For example:

- putting up links in places where potential users might be found 
  (reciprocal links, link collections, SNS posts/profiles, description 
  sections of uploads, forum signatures...)
- recommending the site to friends and users of other places you fre-
  quent whenever it's relevant to the conversation (e.g. someone expli-
  citly asks for links to fun websites/imageboards, someone is reminis-
  cing about the old days and asks if anything like that still exists, 
  etc.)
- making strong friendships with other site owners (users of other 
  sites are more likely to visit if the owners are on good terms)

...etc!

Now getting visitors is one thing, but turning them into fully-fledged 
users requires giving visitors a reason to keep coming back. If nothing 
of interest has happened since they last checked the site (or the site 
is clearly abandoned/neglected) then they'll wait a little longer 
before returning next time - or simply not return at all! (;´Д`)

I will never neglect Heyuri, and agree those are what needs to get done but
I don't like seeing my efforts being all talk - so I've been thinking about what
I can personally do on the matter both as the admin and as a user. ( ´ω`)

I told this before but I think at Heyuri's scale, a user can have nearly as much
effect on the site as its admin does, and much of the effort I put into Heyuri
wouldn't necessarily require me having admin access in the first place (´Д`)
This may change in the future/You probably know I don't do 0 administration,
but I can't bring myself to believe few active users would magically start sharing
Heyuri on other places just because I am maintaining it, so it leaves me with
some moar responsibilities to see Heyuri RISE (´ー`)

Yesterday I bought myself an offical Duncan Imperial Yo-yo, and I set them up as how the instructions had told me to. I cut the string to my proper height, made a slipknot to properly wrap around my middle finger, and threw it as the instructions told me to.

Somehow, I can't seem to throw a fast Spinner (aka: a Sleeper) and the yoyo will usually bounce back up on its own to my hand or bounce and turn until it dies out. I tried taking the string out and putting it back in (both single loop and double loop) and ended up with getting a Spinner only 50% of the time I throw the yo-yo. 

If anyone who knows things about yo-yo's do you have any tips? (;´Д`)

I use to be really into yoyos when I was a kid,
the imperial is not really that great of a sleeper to begin with it is more 
of a looping yoyo. Although my speed beetle which is pretty much the same design is 
like perfectly tuned for sleeping and looping. I can't remember if the imperial 
has proper bearings or just an axel, or if it has friction pads. 
either way lube+ possibly adding a spacer on each side of the bearing is 
usually how you make a yoyo less responsive. maybe try to just loosen the 
yoyo a bit if possible to widen the gap. If it has friction pads, you 
gotta wear them out JUST enough so it sleeps but will still grab when you pull it.

I don't give a crap about whoever you're talking about, and I don't 
"shit on" you - in fact I've stood up for you a lot, and I always try 
to be tactful when discussing these kinds of matters (like not going 
full "KUZ IS TEH SATAN HE IS CAUSE OF EVERYTHING BAD EVAR I HAET KUZ" - 
I intentionally leave your name out of everything because I don't want 
to start some stupid witch hunt against you or pin all blame on you)

I have however taken issue with many of the things you've done over the 
past year that have negatively affected Heyuri or other cool/friendly 
websites and projects - I personally thought multich was a cool project 
(as did you), right up until you burned it down over what appeared to 
be a minor issue

As far as I saw with my own two eyes, there were no "attacks" on Heyuri 
(you and your services however are possibly a different matter, I 
didn't see anything myself though). To me it seemed like you and some 
others flinging crap at each other after a silly falling out, and then 
you involved Heyuri with that lame URL wordfilter/dox stuff

Then there was several similar instances with other sites/admins and 
you coming out as "pro-war", which really left a bad taste in my mouth

The problem was that the gikopoi site is owned by the same guy who owns
0chan, who tried to blackmail me. After all that he did he had the audacity
to say that some "russian cybercriminal" harassed him and his poor
innocent project until it shut down. So obviously I wouldnt put up with his
shit, thats all it is. 

So the fact you "dont blame them" as if i came and messed with their stuff
is what upsets me. He (robert) wronged me and when I retaliated he
acted like a victim, which has been rehashed as propaganda about
le evil kuz going after poor people for no reason. Multich could have been
cool if it wasnt managed by an insane person, so you should take
your grievances to them if you are still mourning its death.

I dont actually care what side you take in this, its ancient drama and 
me and him dont give a shit about eachother much anymore. But
its just a string in weird rumors and conspiracy theories you have 
posted in the last few months, or you (and others) getting waaay
too worked up over me fooling around on other sites (something
i have always done). The continued rage fueled paragrapghs about 
kolyma.. dont even get me started. I know its not for everyone, thats
why i removed references to it everywhere, and people still bitch.

This is the true reason I had gave my position to kaguya. I have
lost touch with this site and its users, either that or they changed.
Im still regretful and confused, but i believe that kaguya could

Well I didn't know gikopoi.com had anything to do with that guy, but I 
can confirm via a whois lookup that it's most likely true - it shows 
that gikopoi.com is on the same IP address as 0chan.vip (;´Д`)

When I posted originally, I was under the impression that the 
gikopoi.com owner was someone completely unrelated to the drama, and 
they had just seen things play out as a third-party onlooker the same 
way I did. I had assumed they removed our links out of disgust/disap-
pointment or whatever, but now I can at least see that there was more 
to the story than what I had assumed - I wouldn't have suggested 
"making amends" or wording things the way I did if I had known. I apol-
ogize for that (;´Д`)

Regarding rumors and conspiracies: nothing that anyone says on the 
internet can be trusted, so I generally ignore the random rantings and 
raving of internet people (such as faganon or whoever the latest "kuz 
ruined my life" guy is) - but that also means I take everything you say 
about yourself/kolyma/whatever with a truckload of salt! I don't 
believe anything unless I can confirm it for myself, and you/kolyma are 
surrounded by such a clusterfuck of drama, hearsay, and bullshit (both

The default font situation for this script is kinda weird IMHO - the 
font that ayashii kaomoji and AA are really designed for is "MS 
Gothic", but the script prioritizes other fonts over it (like "BIZ 
UDGothic" which is included with "Japanese Supplemental Fonts" on 
Windows - it's more readable and less pixelated, but the "ー" character 
doesn't have the little uptick that makes it look like a smile)

The current/default body font-family (found in /sub/template.html):
font-family: "BIZ UDゴシック", "Noto Sans Mono CJK JP", "Noto Sans Mono", "IPAゴシック", "HGゴシックM", "ＭＳ ゴシック", "MS Gothic", monospace;

NEW and IMPROVED (probably!) body font-family, at least in terms of 
kaomoji and AA support:

It's "inspired" by those ancient 2ch AA editors (AKA I'm just copying 
all the characters from one of them, LOL), but for Ayashii cuz nothing

Yeah that's totally wrong - you're using some kind of MS PGothic clone 
instead of MS Gothic! The former uses proportional spacing (so each 
character can have different widths to the next), while the other is 
monospaced (so all full-width characters are the same width as each 
other, and all half-width characters are exactly half of that)

The large spaces between the lines are also erroneous, but that's just 
cuz Firefux'd likes to render that font with >1 line spacing instead of 
exactly 1 - you can use this CSS to fix it:

I specifically designed it to look perfect on MS PGothic (and fonts 
that are metrically-compatible with MS PGothic, like Monafont) so that 
it would be really obvious to tell if that's what the problem was, as 
opposed to a browser simply falling back to the default Latin monospace 
font which is a whole different kind of b0rked ヽ(´ー｀)ノ

Besides the fix for the line-height and few unrelated customizations, 
nothing... in fact I'm wondering what everyone else did to break it!

If you're using Windows, then it should "just werk" - if not, then you 
should at least have one of the following fonts installed:
- MS Gothic
- BIZ UDGothic
- Noto Sans Mono CJK JP
- Noto Sans Mono
- IPAGothic
- HGGothicM

As mentioned earlier, the default font stack for this script isn't the 
greatest and could be improved, but it might also be worth checking 
your browser's default Japanese fonts - set default monospace font to 
MS Gothic (or one of the alternatives) if it isn't already

It was a long had wish of mine to make a font which looked as MS Gothic
or mona but did not mess up Russian characters (like this.. КУЗНЕЦОВ)
It spaces them out too much! But upon doing some cursory work to fix it
i realized that it ruins alot of AA if they are not spaced out like that (;´Д`)
since most AA uses russian characters (zhiba, forgive us)

I think the reason that ayashii is the biggest board on heyuri and so fast
is because its literally fast, its very optimized and its easy to post
here, unlike /b/ where it takes 20 minutes to load everything and wait 
for the post to go through

I know the feeling. I wanted to make a Docomo emoji font - and in color 
too - but it was too hard (;´Д`)

It would probably be easier just to turn them into images and wordfil-

heyuri is slow because kokonotsuba is built on top of ancient un-optimized software. i have never gotten why they insist on using in house software, instead of well optimized, modern, and professional open source software that can hold thousands of posts without slowing down. ┐(ﾟ～ﾟ)┌
i guess they think open source = more vulnerabilities, but honestly it's quite the opposite. if your source code is publicly available, theirs more of an incentive to make it as secure and simplistic as possible. also, you have the benefit of hundreds of volunteer developers  ヽ(´∇`)ノ

I'm pro-"making Heyuri software open source" too, if for no other 
reason than it would make it as easy to troubleshoot as Strange World 
(see: the X-Frame-Options issue yesterday that was solved quickly 
thanks to a non-staff member being able to look through the script)

However... you have to admit that virtually all the open source image-
board scripts out there are equally as poorly written/optimized, are 
also based on ancient code, and are also in absolutely no way "profes-
sional" - and worse still, most of them haven't been updated in at 
least 10-20 years, because that's when the imageboard format's heyday 
was (;´Д`)

And in the exceedingly rare cases that they do avoid a couple of those 
pitfalls, they're usually so far removed from the traditional image-
board format that they're undesirable to anyone who would want to use 
it (;´Д`)

The only imageboard script in the world that is (mostly) traditional, 
is well optimized, and is proven to be able to handle over a million 
posts per day without completely falling on its ass is... 4chan! 
(since the 2012 rewrite anyway - it used to run like crap before that)

...and it's closed source!!! (;´Д`)

Time and time again people say this, but we dont live in a utopic world.
You think just because somethings open source means people will
contribute? If that were true kokonotsuba's javascript should be much better. 
Its public and open source in a kokonotsuba-js github repository
Every time someone brings up koko not being open source i mention this

Kokonotsuba may not be the fastest but its definitely special, it has alot of
cool features which make the boards that use it unique. The fact only a 
select few sites can use it contributes to those sites value in a special way.

Kokonotsuba would be alot better and faster if outside circumstances these
past 2 months hadnt made the development scene much more difficult, also

Because thats not the purpose of the module system. Its so that different
boards which use kokonotsuba can serve different means. For example
we dont need flags on heyuri, so we can just enable the flag module on
nihongoch and no where else, or just enable to worldfilter here but not
there, or whatever. Also the code is ours, kokonotsuba has almost nothing
to do with pixmicat anymore.  We've rewrote almost everything except a 
few of the absolutely most basic parts and even thos are scheduled
for rewrites. 

And no we will not just "start over" because koko isnt fast. We got this 
far and will continue fixing it up and making it better. No project that
was wiped from scratch and started over ever turned out better, you just
lose good progress and end up making the same mistakes which you could
have easily just fixed. I know, from experience. 

Also, break your posts, instead of typing in long lines.

I think a ton of Strawberry Heaven's boards were well under 100 posts 
too, especially those that got culled after the first 3 weeks (plus /r/ 
- Reimu/Armpits which didn't get culled...)

A lot of the ones in our buttons aren't from Japanese ayashii boards
(which is why they look kinda foreign or 2ch-like), but some are from

My first tip is to simply make sure your HTML is well formed:

- make sure <title>, <meta>, <style>, <link>, etc. elements are inside 
  a <head> section above the <body>

- make sure that the first thing in the <head> section is the character

If people weighed what I did for heyuri against what little is percieved as a "
'problem' (filters on drama threads) maybe they'd stop complaining. Wait
till a few years till they start changing the names on all the newsposts
since the word kuz is too probematic ヽ(`Д´)ノ

Ungrateful idiots.. first removing jump, then captcha, now this. If you dont put
the brakes on somewhere its just going to get out of hand with this useless

I wonder if all those people who think im terrible tyrant or censoring everyone
realize that virtually everything they say and read about me is allowed

Kuz - nobody has said anything you're claiming they're saying, so there 
is no need for all the melodrama and namecalling. All anyone (including 
me) has said is that kolyma wordfilters don't belong on Heyuri - and 
they're right!

The inclusion of kolyma stuffz to Heyuri was real revisionism, and it's 
only by removing it that Heyuri can move past it and flourish as its 
own thing once more - just as it had been doing recently!

When it comes to news posts, those of yours that had your name removed 
or that had been deleted altogether were recently RESTORED - upon my 
request no less! Not to mention me digging through some archives and 
screencapping some of your "golden age" writings that I felt really 
showed what Heyuri is all about so that teh n00bs could learn our ways, 
plus all the stuff that's gone into the wiki (and all the stuff that 
HASN'T gone into the wiki...)

Regarding being "censored", I do believe you're the one who established 
this section of the rules, and once enforced it with an iron fist to 
most Heyuri users' approval:

  are in no way entitled to anything on this site, and your ability

Perhaps you dont understand how Kokonotsuba works.. its not like most 
imageboard softwares where you can plug and play. Kokonotsuba boards
are just frontends to a massive global backend which every board uses at
a central center, this is how all big softwares do it, including 4chan.

Kokonotsuba isnt meant for someone to just download and set up, its a 
deeply centralized software and the people that use it must be given
explicit permission to use it, and generally everyone that is given it
is working for kolyma. Since it is produced by and for us it is compliant
with our own rules, which forbid things like unconstructive criticism, terrorist
stuff (such as ukranian symbolism) and anything which can pose physical
harm to the sites themselves.

Now if you really want to be "de-kolymafied" to the point you are pushing,
you would need to drop the Kokonotsuba, SpamDB (the spam database which
heyuri defacto uses as its ban system, since most bans are for bots/cp spammers)
and a myriad of other little bits and things which were made. Also, you would
need to drop off the hosting since it too is provided by kolyma and therefor 
cant properly be used if you want a completely de-kolymafied heyuri.

Hmmm.. its almost more trouble than its worth isnt it? You and others once
had valid concerns, which I took to heart about Heyuri and Kolyma, but you
are going way too far and overboard now, and it obviously comes from a place

I agree with removing the Kaptcha, not only because of the Kolyma
branding, but mainly because it used WebP image format, which only 
works on the very newest Web browsers, the use of which kind of ruins 
the atmosphere of Heyuri (also, they're only 3 colors; if they were
GIFs they would be a smaller filesize and have no visible compression,
but that's besides the point)
However, I don't think the wordfilter is much of an issue for Heyuri,

1. It had lots to do with kissu, as both the owner and 2 of its moderators
were diretly involved in the whole situation..

2. At the time I had wrote these newsposts I had only been suffering these
attacks for 3 days and I thought it was just a small incident with a little
peak in traffic, I was woefully incorrect and considered taking down those
newsposts multiple times but decided not to for posterity. Later on it 
became obvious what the real cause was, and exactly who was behind it
(based on when it happened throughout the day, where it came from, and
people from a kissu/sageru irc room predicting it minutes before it happened)

I don't excuse that behavior - I just have no way of knowing who was 
behind it, so I'm not pointing any fingers. I know what parts you were 
behind though, because you've generally used your name and tripcode 
while doing it - petty tribalism, annoying self-promotion (even after 
being asked to stop), and making many individuals and communities avoid 
Heyuri purely because of your/kolyma's involvement with it (;´Д`)

And there were plenty of other instances just like this involving you 
taking part in dumb internet slapfights with other sites/admins too -

This is the best and most succinct history of webm and explanation as
to why webp is bad ive seen. There are so many more reasons though, for
example; google and other CDN-like services MITM you to send you a webp
instead of a standard image format. Common software like VLC supported
webm very early so support was always good. Webms were never intended
to be used in professional applications like video editing.
Where as webp is not supported by anything outside of conversion programs
to convert them into standard formats. Webp adds another step in the
workflow of professional/creative usage of images. Imagine the time
spent collectively wasted by webp conversions when someone just needs
a transparent question mark clipart to use in their silly vidlii vid.
There are also far better alternatives to webp that are open source,
but still face the same issue of absolutely zero software support.
Webps have really disgusting compression artifacts that are way worse
than jpg. Also the tiny size savings of webp is not really a good
selling point considering hdds are so cheap now. With a standard image
format, you know what you are getting, but with webp you might be getting
and animated gif, a transparent png, a compressed jpg, or any goofy combo.

It depends on how your browser is set up - if your default Japanese 
monospace font size set to 13px (about 10pt), monospace text on pages 
that don't specify any CSS will appear small. If it's set to 16px 
(12pt), it will appear large!

It's hard to say that either size is "correct" because it's ultimately 
a user preference, but I will attempt to recreate a typical 1999-ish 
setup (Japanese Windows 98 + IE5 + era appropriate ayashii script) and 
report back with how it looks (⌒∇⌒ゞ)

I have one that is very close to what was the final version of the 
modified MiniBBS that Shiba distributed on his site. You'll find it in 
the REBIRTH folder of this ZIP archive: https://2ch.sh/src/1805.zip

HOWEVER: it requires some fiddling to get up and running (maybe I'll 
make a better distribution of these scripts at some point, as I have 
them all up and running locally), but if you do get it working you 
might notice something odd about the title and background color

Explaining it would require a small essay on a specific point in 
Ayashii World history, but I can provide it if you want (I already 
wrote it, but it's not in this post cuz it got too long ヽ(´ー｀)ノ)

It's been a while since I shared these files, so I'll at least explain 
that these files were extracted from archives of Mana's site (the owner 
of REBIRTH) made during a time when all the files were exposed (links 
to this are placed in source.txt, although the files there are slightly 
corrupted and require fixing - the files provided in the ZIP have been 
fixed already ヽ(´ー｀)ノ)

In addition to the REBIRTH script, there is also REQUIEM and @hi-ho - 
both of these are also very similar to Shiba's Ayashii script, only 
with a few extra features and patches

REQUIEM in particular was distributed by Mana, and the ZIP contains an 
HTML readme page which goes over some of the changes that were made to 
both the original MiniBBS 7.5, as well as those specific to the REQUIEM

The thing about all of these scripts is... they're really not much 
different to what we have now (KuzuhaScriptPHP+) other than that

about ranges of fascinating topics, you can usually expect serious and well

If I actually knew JavaScript and wasn't just stealin' small snippets 
off teh interwebs and crudely gluing them to my handcoded HTML+CSS, it

All my ayashii AA up until now (which is basically all the AA ever 
posted here that wasn't by lg-san) has been made by having one of these 
ancient Japanese-only programs open to the side, and manually copypast-
ing the symbols from the program into the post form...

But one day I had an epiphany and thought "hey, I know HTML+CSS, why 
don't I stealz teh 'click buton to add kaomoji to textarea' script and 
design my own simple web-based Ayashii AA editor! ヽ(´∇`)ノ"

And so I did ヽ(´ー｀)ノ

Obviously it won't have the more advanced features those programs have 
(like tracing, autotracing, showing where all the spaces and newlines 
are, etc.), but it's better than nothing ヽ(´ー｀)ノ

If you find any glaring issues, I'll try to fix it accordingly (unless 
it's related to JavaScript, in which case you may want to try asking at

I changed the name at the last minute because... well, it turns out 
that mattari is called mattari!

Also apparently (;´Д`) is called ダウソ (dauso), a play on the word 
ダウン (down) which was common net slang for "download" - swapping ン 
for ソ was a popular meme on the Japanese web of the 90s

That aside, have you tried it out yet? Does it work/look alright on ur

I booted to windows to have the correct font, but where I don't have my
passwerds saved so replying without name attached (;´Д`)

l stiII have a bit troubIe teIIing ソ and ン or シ and ツ apart on some
Japanese fonts too (´Д`) not surprising to hear it became a joke

Yeah I'm trying it out now, it's pretty c00l ヽ(´ー｀)ノ
If u want some complaints:
- misses a favicon. Might be on purpose but tabs without favicons get lost
on my machine where I sometimes need to use favicons to navigate (;´Д`)
- Menu at left could use a separate scroller than the main page. It becomes
a bit pain to scroll all the way down and up at longer lists like kaomoji
- At kaomoji section, kaomoji under "Penis" don't seem to be penises...

On the more complex side

- can't properly place multi-line stuff except for the first line when the cursor
isn't at the beginning of a line
- being able to undo recently placed stuffz with ctrl+z would be helpful since I
just b0rked what I was working on by testing the point above (;´Д`)
- the side menu can be resized and stuff liek ヽ(´ー｀三´ー｀)ノ could be
displayed in full when it's large enough. 
- after placing something, the cursor gets sent to the end of that line instead of
the expected, which is after the last character of what was put on

nvm, I read you are already aware on readme. Maybe someone else with enough JS skills

I did make one, but I didn't really liek it and couldn't be bothered to 
try again (;´Д`)

That was the original intention (you can see the scrollbar in the first 
screenshot I shared), but it didn't want to work regardless of what I 
tried - it would always expand beyond the viewport and show all of the 
buttons, making the scrollbar useless. The web just isn't built for 
that kind of thing - it's designed to expand vertically regardless of 
your viewport, and getting it to do anything else requires hax (;´Д`)

That kaomoji is just called ぺにす. From what I've seen, it's typically 
used like this:

- The price of gas went upｯ!?(;`Д´)
- The girl I'm dating has a penisｯ!?(;`Д´)
- I've started gaining weightｯ!?(;`Д´)

Yeah it's not that advanced, and I'm pretty sure such a thing is not 
possible (at least not without some serious wizardry). Text on the web 
is just a 1-dimensional stream of characters, spaces, and line breaks 
that may or may not wrap around once a limit is hit - having the code 
detect the size of the textarea, know that you're using a Japanese 
monospace font, understand what it is you're trying to paste, calculate 
all the spaces required to position things correctly, deal with 
potential conflicts... yeah, that's not happening! (;^Д^)

That's just how the insert script is - it's the exact same script as 
used for the kaomoji buttons here, and so it has the exact same flaws. 
Unless someone around here has l33t JS sk1llz, that's just how it is!

I didn't design it to do that, so it would be a lot of work - in fact I 
explicitly designed the "toolbar" section to be as rigidly fixed-width 
as possible, because the jank from clicking on different pages and 
having the whole thing resize in horrible and inconsistent ways was

By the way, why is it mattari?

I don't know a lot about japanese, but I thought
the way it worked was each word being made up of
a list of short units(ko, te, na, mi, etc.).

So wouldn't it be natural for it to be ma-ta-ri?
