> I wonder if the word "post" in reference to writing a post on a BBS comes from > "posting a letter to the board" or "posting a note" like to an actual bulletin > board I think it's the latter - BBSes were invented in the USA as far as I'm aware, and Americans typically use "mail/mailing" instead of "post/posting" when referring to sending/receiving letters (hence "e- mail" and not "e-post"). Americans do however use "post" as in "posting a public notice for all to see", which is where I believe "posting" in the context of BBSes comes from On Japanese boards (including KuzuhaScriptPHP+ and RNS Remix), I often see "toukou" (投稿) which means submission/contribution (as in "contributing an article to a newspaper"), "toukou-sha" (投稿者) which means submitter/contributor, "toukou nichiji" (投稿日時) which means "submission/contribution date", etc. The direct English translations are TOO LONG however, so I didn't use them in any of my script translations (;´Д`) I did use "submission board" (投稿板; toukou-ban) kinda awkwardly on bbsdirectory though. If anyone was wondering what the hell that meant, it means "boards where people submit their own original material to share with others (usually nudes/amateur pr0nz)" Reference: 2021/11/01(Mon) 20:36:15
