It's basically an Ayashii World script where users can create "boards" (a single board being essentially what we're posting on here) which would be assigned to pre-existing categories. There's no "tree view", because that was a relatively late addition to Ayashii scripts (around 2003), and Remix predates that by 3~4 years There's a live Remix instance in operation here if you want to see what it looks like: http://www.strangeworld.ne.jp/remix/bbs.cgi We did have our own "Heyuri Remix" for a while, which used a later but lesser known version of the script that I had recovered and translated, but it's currently out of operation (;´Д`) (you can find the transla- ted version of the script here: https://github.com/Heyuri/HeyuriRemix ) Reference: 2022/08/15(Mon) 15:52:47

there are over 20 textboard scripts. they are easy to write whether in bash or C or go or JS etc etc etc. the real question is, what novel feature do you plan to bring to the table in your board? http://overscript.net/ Reference: 2022/08/16(Tue) 14:32:41
> おまえ要らない。 Can't access that live Remix instance. Personally, I don't think there's much value in allowing people to make their own boards. Maybe allowing a thread OP to moderate his own thread could be a valuable experiment, but most smaller sites suffer from having too many boards rather than too few. Look at ayashii.net, just one big board and it works fine. I intend to add the "view all comments", "view threads", "view trees" similar to what Ayashii.net has. Site admin can pick a few tags and users can optionally select one or more when making a new thread. Reference: 2022/08/15(Mon) 18:04:55

Try this instead: https://web.archive.org/web/20220816125251/http://www.strangeworld.ne.jp/remix/bbs.cgi They're "boards" in the same way Strange World is a board - they're basically one big infinitely long thread/topic. Instead of tags, you just give the "board" a title, and there is a view that shows all posts from all "boards" in a single stream: https://web.archive.org/web/20220816125427/http://www.strangeworld.ne.jp/remix/bbs.cgi?area=read&bgcolor=004040&custom=ffffff004040eeffeedddddd0&autolink=checked There's no user board moderation, the admin is still responsible for that Reference: 2022/08/16(Tue) 14:41:23

I would like to ask again what new features you want to bring to the table, so to speak. Cookies to remember your name and email/link make sense. What about things like giving the thread OP an option to enable IDs in the thread? As the author of the textboard article on Wikipedia and several textboard scripts, my opinion is that tags have a lot to offer these kinds of boards. Per-thread ATOM feeds, as well. I've also wondered about how tripcodes (pseudo registration) could be expanded in the modern age: maybe Oauth or PGP-based identities? The nice thing about a tripcode is that it can be used on other sites in this family of forums. The downsides is that they are easily spoofed and not especially user friendly. Being able to post as an off-site identity, eg your Twitter/Mastodon/email (opt in) has its advantages.... while it was generally a failure, I still think 1chan was notable in its approach to handling identities (every user has an account, anonymous by default, checkbox to show "user" a la "CAPCODES") Reference: 2022/08/16(Tue) 15:23:45

If you want to see what a 2ch-type BBS with tons of kewl features looks like - one that doesn't require a seperate browser/app to view/use the extra features liek 2ch/5ch does - see open2ch: https://open2ch.net (you can use this page to see the most active boards: https://open2ch.net/dev/toukei/ ) They've got quotelink previews on hover and inline reply previews, but those are probably the least interesting features of all. > In that case, couldn't you just take a modern imageboard script like > jschan, strip out or disable all the features you don't want, and then > customize it as you desire? Imageboard has a different design. They are usually multi-board and numerate each post per board. It looks like a basic feature, I need to rewrite the core to change than. Then why not just it from ground-up in a wierd language? I think I'd have some fun. So let's get back to my original question: I was just asking about weird / unpopular languages, which I could with no problem apply to web backend. Do you know any? I've already tried Ruby, but Ruby is too slow. Reference: 2022/08/16(Tue) 18:11:11

I've already tried Ruby, but Ruby is too slow. The design really isn't that different between most 2ch-type BBS scripts and Futaba-style imageboard scripts, especially due to the latter having adopted many features of the former (sage, tripcodes, cap- codes, etc) - it's just a matter of per-thread logs VS per-board logs/ a database for the most part, and the rest is all just aesthetics and configs (which are easily modifiable) Hell, kokonotsuba is a Futaba-type imageboard script that can emulate the appearance of a 2ch-type board, and kareha is a 2ch-type script that can emulate the appearance of an imageboard - not to mention that tons of Japanese BBS scripts include an imageboard mode (such as the script we're posting on rite now! ヽ(´ー`)ノ) Per-board post numbers don't seem like a big issue to me unless ur goal is to perfectly replicate 2ch - which honestly it doesn't sound to me like it is. The only reason Amezou (and by extension, 2ch) was ever like that in the first place was cuz they nigger rigged a system where each thread was designated a seperate log file that would be viewed with a modified version of MiniBBS in a very crude attempt to seperate threads from the board index (thus making threads with many replies more viable) And while jschan does have multiboard features and an 8chan-like board creation and management system built-in (which can be disabled), being multiboard is nearly always entirely optional when it comes to these kinds of scripts - in fact, the majority of them are only designed to be a single board, and if you want multiple boards then you have to manually set up multiple instances of the script and make your own home- page/menu to link them all together (;^Д^) Reference: 2022/08/16(Tue) 18:23:53

> for no real reason For fun, nigger, for fun. Egotist objectives are the only objectives that matter. Yesterday I played with Guile webserver module and was able to create POST request, but I'm stuck since Guile webserver can't run some useful scripts (like writing POST content to file/database), only provide response. Actually it can run a simple script and webserver will output an error, but I can't combine response (like redirect) and script (like writing to file/database). I will probably look for other solutions; maybe, Chez Scheme has more mature webserver module. Reference: 2022/08/17(Wed) 03:30:59

Aesthetics are important, but they're fairly superficial - the culture and content are far more important, but those things are a lot more difficult to bring about unless you're specifically making a site about [old topic that anyone younger than XX isn't interested in] With any serious attempt to recreate/recapture the spirit of a certain time period, people who were too young to have experienced it first hand will always be unable to fully comprehend or adapt to it, and just end up annoying and driving off those who were around for it That's why for any topic that young people might be interested in, we have to settle for all these crappy "looks old but feels underageb&" sites instead of something that truly feels like it's a portal to another time period (;´Д`) Reference: 2022/08/27(Sat) 17:13:34

It isn't about the UI, though the old yt layout is objectively better. The videos on the site may not all 100% be ~2007 culture exclusively but the spirit of the site is still the same, it is place where anyone can upload anything, mostly stupid shit for fun. No one on vidlii is making $ off of doing it like modern yt. Vidlii isn't an all seeing overreaching system like google is that is tied into everything. Vidlii doesn't remove your video for using certain MUSIC Or for talking shit, or talking about certain topics that the "influencers" of our realm have deemed taboo like not being gay. Vidlii isn't hiding results from my search, and tags actually mean something. Look at bitchute, another youtube alternative but something that is NOT made in the spirit of old youtube, pretty much 99% of the videos there are loser nerd wanna be political talking heads who just make videos complaining and nothing productive. Now look at the vidlii home page and wow look new unique videos? and stuff that is familiar to me, someone who was on yt back then? Also lots of drama and shit talking? this is EXACTLY like youtube use to be. Just because some users are not old enough to have used youtube when it was like vidlii doesn't matter. These new users are making new shit in the same spirit of the old website. I DOUBT that you were using japanese only bbs sites in the early 90s yet here you are, on a site that is a modern recreation of an early 90s jp bbs. You don't have the same culture as they did. You don't know the inside jokes and ways of speaking that they had in their culture. And most people don't even know what the spirit of those early sites were or their intended purpose, yet here we are on a recreation of those sites making our own shit with a mix of what we do know about their original culture and some of our own (thank god for rule 8 tho) PS I was using vidlii years before lolwut SAVED the site, and the ONLY people that have a problem with it are suffering from kuz derangement syndrome since he dares to provide hosting. The only real problem with vidlii is the mass uploaded SEO bot videos about like lawncare and shit. Plus, some of those were actually funny (back then anyway) Although youtube wasn't anywhere near as limited in terms of FREDDUMS OF SPECH as it is today, youtube (and virtually every other site on the internet) was significantly less "boundary-pushing" than it became in later years, and it was always a far cry from the likes of 4chan - and even 4chan back then didn't cultivate the kinds of low quality garbage that vidlii mostly houses today The closest thing vidlii has to old youtube content is videos that have been stolen from youtube, or reuploaded from youtube as a backup by people who are primarily based on youtube. In terms of the old youtube culture (which could be summarized as being a typical early-mid 2000s social network where most people are there to meet and interact with new people from around the world and make new friends), vidlii and all the other "old youtube" clones never have anything of the sort Instead they just have a small group of mentally retarded children making ironically shitty, post-ironically shitty, and unironically shitty videos to an audience of no one. Oh, and monkey torture pr0n I guess... (;´Д`) Regarding Ayashii World, boards like this started in 1997 and their "heyday" continued to around 2003. This board isn't trying to emulate or recreate that time period/culture as much as it looks to it for inspiration, and it fully intends to do and be its own thing (much like the rest of Heyuri). Vidlii on the other hand is trying to "emulate, as much as is reasonably possible, the overall experience of 2000s YouTube" according to lolwut's own words, and in my opinion it fails miserably at it (through no fault of anyone running the site) Reference: 2022/08/27(Sat) 19:56:52

Or you only watch front page stuff I've dug around the videos section and searched for stuff plenty of times - whenever I've checked it's never been anything like I described old youtube as being unless it's an actual old youtube video, or is a video mirrored by someone who primarily uploads to youtube and only uses vidlii as a failsafe (and there's not even that many of those). Instead, it's mostly how I described vidlii as being - CRAP! What's funny is that I was even going to say "this video by kuz is just about the only thing on vidlii that's reminiscent of old youtube: https://www.vidlii.com/watch?v=XIxben5XeBs ", but what do I discover? ...that it was fukken uploaded to youtube in 2008: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwPDETH2Bn8 Where the hell are all the cute girls vlogging into their webcams about the things on their mind? Where are the plethora of awesome music covers by talented amateur musicians? Where are the hilarious comedy sketches by a couple of dudes in their bedroom/dorm? Where are the epic remixes and song parodies? Where's the amateur music videos for some- one's favorite show/movie that they spent ages passionately working on? Where is literally anything that's akin to the kind of stuff that was actually on youtube during the early years? NOWHERE, that's where. It's 99% just lame "day 1 in a video editor" garbage made by 12 year olds with nu-web brain rot who think "shit video" = "funneh". Well it doesn't. They SUCK, shit SUX, and it's nothing at all like old youtube unless your entire experience with "old youtube" is some shitty YTPs and TF2 videos from 2009 or whatever Sorry to get all "faganon", but it's only cuz you fags keep going on about how vidlii is "just liek teh old youtubes!", when in reality it's absolutely nothing like it - at least not beyond the interface. Also previously you praised machinima videos but > now you are bad mouthing tf2 machinima? Machinima ALSO pre dates youtube. MY video? It's here, courtesy of kaguya-san ヽ(´ー`)ノ https://www.vidlii.com/watch?v=zekNlzoD8gS I had a bunch of videos on youtube back in the day, but that channel is long gone and now there's maybe only a couple of remixes and other stuff I made many years ago that others have either uploaded on my behalf or reuploaded by themselves There was always plenty of stuff from other sites on youtube, but the thing that set youtube apart from all its shortlived competitors (that also had all that same stuff from other sites on them) was youtube's homegrown material and culture. And it wasn't good simply because it was homegrown - it was homegrown and AWESOME, felt a lot more personal, and made many people want to keep revisiting and contributing to the site for moar I'm not sure how I can explain it so you get it, but youtube was like a social network where the whole point was to "broadcast yourself" and interact with others through the medium of video (whether that was a public audience, another youtuber via video response, or to some indivi- dual privately). This wasn't a "super specific favorite video style" - it was the main purpose and function of the website, and primarily what the site consisted of Yes lonelygirl15 was "fake", but the whole reason that saga worked in the first place was because it took the most popular format on the site (thus blending in perfectly and even getting popular before all teh craziness kicked in), and then became a massive phenomenon when the cults and kidnappings or whatever were introduced. But those early lone- lygirl15 videos (when they were still playing it straight) are perfect- ly representative of what a huge component of old youtube was actually like Niconico was the same. It wasn't all crazy animations and stuff - it was predominantly ordinary people talking and performing into webcams and microphones in their bedrooms. Vidlii doesn't have that - it has (who I can only presume are) very young kids making very shit videos to the extent that anything else is practically unfindable on the site And they're not shit because "they're actually liek super talented and doing it for teh art reasons" - it's because they're talentless idiots who are clearly incapable of making anything better. It's exactly the sort of thing that isn't even allowed on Heyuri because it breaks the rule we have to stop cretins from shitting this place up with trash that ruins the internet - even if it's post-post-post-post-post-ironic I'm not talking about "oddly specific years" either - "old youtube" is the period from its launch in 2005, somewhat before Google bought the site in 2006, and definitely before it became massively mainstream and started deviating from its original form around 2008-2009. You can call the 2008-2012 years or whatever old if you want, but it's not what anyone besides n00bs refer to as "old youtube" Now STFU, this conversation is too long (;´Д`) Reference: 2022/08/28(Sun) 21:08:44

There are two things when browsing modern retro sites that tend to turn me off. You're right that a lot of the sites that LOOK old at a first glance, but are just superficial copies made by people in middle school (I'm glad they're taking an interest in the old web, but I feel like they miss the point - Y2k style is cool and all, but come on). That takes me out of it pretty quickly. The other thing, actually, tends to be more common in people our age. They'll make a pretty good site that's mainly in line with things from the time, but it'll be infected with modern political garbage. Even just a hint of it would turn me off - and it doesn't matter which side. Modern political discourse is such a toxic waste dump that it takes over people's brains like a parasite. That's why bitchute will never, ever be a good website. Reference: 2022/08/27(Sat) 19:56:52
